Tanglewood’s Sundance Performance Pro Series is the culmination of decades of guitar building expertise and research. Swedish master luthier Michael Sanden has designed Tanglewood’s new flagship models, boasting all solid wood combinations and sumptuous features on some of the most popular and iconic acoustic body shapes in guitar history. The Sundance Performance Pro TW45 ASVE model is a stylish Super Folk Cutaway Electro with onboard Fishman Electronics for optimum stage performance. It features a hand selected premium AAA grade solid Cedar top, paired with genuine Solid Mahogany back and sides. The TW45 ASVE is the perfect guitar for the gigging musician and is flexible enough due to its sizing to be comfortable to both male and female players. Life member of the Guild of Master Luthiers, Michael Sanden, created a special quarter sawn spruce bracing in a tapered style, using a combination of X bracing and fan bracing. This arrangement gives a superior flexibility and tonality from the AAA grade solid cedar top, creating a more stable top than typical bracing. The consistency of tone and long sustain are testament to Michaels bracing system. Michael Sanden selected Cedar for the TW45 ASVE as it has a much warmer sound, and takes less time to reach its full tonal potential making Cedar a popular choice with finger style players. Cedar-topped guitars are characteristically lush, dark-toned, and bursting with flavour. Michael chose Mahogany wood for the back and sides as the density of the mahogany gives the guitar great projection, adding warmth, but with definition, and a ‘woody’ character. Mahogany traditionally is a solid wood, with a dark finish, and close grain. The combination of cedar and mahogany is a popular choice as it creates a tone that is very balanced, but versatile, lending itself very well to most musical styles. Besides serving to form the enclosure of the soundbox, the back and sides of the guitar also act as a sympathetic resonator whose oscillations contribute greatly to the harmonic mix. The C-shaped oval profile neck, which is ideal for most playing styles, is constructed from Mahogany which gives the guitar excellent strength lengthwise. The neck is constructed with a traditional dove tail join. The chrome Grover buttons were chosen as Grover are recognised worldwide as industry leaders for high-quality machine heads. Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze 12-53 Light E16052 Acoustic Guitar Strings were selected for the Sundance Performance Pro range. Phosphor bronze strings offer the most sensitive, expressive tone that brings out the very best in guitars—virtually taking them to a higher level of play. However, that tone can be short-lived. Elixir Strings has solved this classic conundrum by applying an ultra-thin layer of NANOWEB Coating to protect the string’s windings hence preserving the coveted phosphor bronze tone. Many players prefer the rich, textured tone of phosphor bronze strings. These Elixir Strings capture the sweet spot of that unique phosphor bronze tone and extend it 3-5x longer than conventional strings. For the electronics on the Sundance Performance Pro series we selected the Fishman Presys+. The Presys+ onboard preamp system is designed to offer maximum control, performance and quality in a small, unobtrusive format. The compact sophisticated Presys+ system features Volume, Bass, Mid and Treble controls, a Phase switch, and a built-in tuner with LED display. The guitar is finished in a high gloss, antique violin, polyurethane finish, which gives it a classy, quality look and feel.

Swedish master luthier Michael Sanden has designed Tanglewood’s new flagship models, boasting all solid wood combinations and sumptuous features on some of the most popular and iconic acoustic body shapes in guitar history. The All Solid Wood Sundance Performance Pro TW15 ASCE model is a bold, workhorse Dreadnought cutaway bodied guitar. The Dreadnought shape strikes the most even balance between volume, size and ease of playing. It features a hand selected premium AAA grade solid Spruce top, paired with genuine Solid Mahogany back and sides. An outstanding guitar for the professional player. Designed by "hall of fame" Scandinavian luthier Michael Sanden, the guitar features traditional quarter sawn spruce bracing in a tapered style, using a combination of X bracing and fan bracing. This arrangement recovers an outstanding flexibility and tonality from the AAA grade solid spruce top, creating a much more stable top than standard bracing. The evenness of tone and ringing bell harmonics are testament to Michaels bracing system for sure. The spruce was hand selected by Michael Sanden as it has a tone that makes it a very good ‘all-rounder’. Spruce top guitars have a wonderful blooming tone, with bell-like trebles and basses that are low and full but tend more toward the mid range. Sweet, and smooth, but not outrageously bright, yet with enough warmth such that it doesn’t sound thin. You will get an incredible variety of tones and timbres from a spruce top guitar. The solid mahogany used for the back and sides is a dense wood, with a dark finish, and close grain. The mahogany’s density can add great ‘punch’ and projection, adding warmth, but with definition, and a ‘woody’ character. The combination of spruce and mahogany is one of the most popular, because it offers a tone that is very balanced, but versatile, lending itself very well to most musical styles. Besides serving to form the enclosure of the soundbox, the back and sides of the guitar also act as a sympathetic resonator whose oscillations contribute greatly to the harmonic mix. The Mahogany necks are constructed with a traditional dove tail join. Mahogany is used as it provides a good longitudinal strength. They are C-shaped in a smooth comfortable oval profile that works well for most playing styles. Producing fine handcrafted Spanish style classical guitars is a centuries old luthiers secret and although to some, a guitar is a guitar, those in the know, including our luthiers, will point to significant differences in the disciplines of making nylon strung guitars & steel strung guitars. For that reason we have established a small handcraft workshop where 4 luthiers now only work producing electro classical guitars for us. This small team are well versed in Spanish classical instrument production and take pride in every instrument they produce. Our intro model will be the TWCE2 Sitka Spruce soundboard instrument. It’s very important for us to capture a striking, authentic Spanish tone, which we will get from the traditional Spruce and Mahogany construction of this model. The cutaway of the instrument lends an air of cool contemporary style and we add the traditional classical values of a 48mm nut width to make things comfortable for the player. We use our 4 band EX4 preamp and digital stage tuner to ensure studio and stage performance readiness and a 19th century southern Spanish rosette pattern to make the cosmetic look just right. Every guitar will feature a handcrafted delicate satin Matt lacquer finish. For the TWCE3 we build upon the platform of the TWCE2, using the same contemporary cutaway styling and timbers of Spruce and Mahogany. We maintain the 48mm nut width and the historic 19th century southern Spanish rosette design and add the B-Band M-450T EQ system. Our luthiers have chosen to upgrade the finish on the TWCE3 to full luxury lacquer gloss.
